Saturday, May 19 -- 10:00 a.m. History Bike Tour on the D&R Canal
towpath from Kingston to Griggstown and back, 10 miles round trip.
Explore the structures along the D&R Canal with Canal Watch trustee
Bob Barth. Meet at the locktender’s home in Kingston. Bring water;

Sunday, May 20 -- Canal Road will be closed between 10:00 and 4:00
between Butler Road and Blackwells Mills Road for Franklin Township’
s “Walk and Roll.” Enjoy a day with friends and family along the scenic
D&R Canal with no cars!

Saturday, June 2 -- Bordentown Bluffs, Stanton Avenue, Bordentown,
NJ. Start time: 10:00 a.m. Prescription for Better Health, RWJ
Hamilton, Friends for the Abbott Marshlands, and the NJ State Parks
offer a series of 1st Saturday walks for those not generally
comfortable outdoors or alone on trails without a walking companion.
Walking is a great benefit for the body and mind. Taking exercise out
into nature augments these benefits, so that getting to better health
may be just a walk in the park! Come discover the Abbott Marshlands
with a knowledgeable guide. This walk will be led by Stephanie Fox,
the D&R Canal State Park Naturalist and Mary Leck, Professor
Emeritus of Rider University. We are hoping the mountain laurel will be
in bloom and there will be beautiful vistas of the Abbott Marshlands.

Sunday, June 3 – 8:00 a.m. Birdwatching walk.  Meet at the historic
Van Wickle House off Easton Avenue at the foot of DeMott Lane,
Somerset section of Franklin. See and hear Baltimore and Orchard
orioles and other nesting songbirds as we walk along the Delaware &

Sunday, June 3 – 2:00 p.m. D&R Canal Watch Annual Meeting at the
Griggstown Muletenders Barracks. Joe Donnelly of the Delaware River
Joint Toll Bridge Commission will present “The Delaware River

Sunday, June 3 -- Pedal and Paddle along the Canals. The Delaware
Canal State Park, D&R Canal State Park and the Delaware River
Greenway Partnership is joining forces to host a PEDAL AND PADDLE
along the canals.
 There are limited amount of spaces and the cost is only $15.00
/person~What a deal! Registrants need to bring their own bike but
kayak and life jackets will be provided. Your spot will NOT be saved
until you complete the registration at:

Days Details: Participants will meet and the event will begin at
Prallsville Mills. The “Pedal” portion of the event will leave from the
Mill, travel south and over the bridge to the PA side. We will pedal up
the Delaware Canal to the Tohickon Creek Aqueduct, and then back
down to the Bulls Island Recreation Area. After the pedal, lunch break
and safety instruction at Bulls Island, and participants will complete
the “Paddle” portion back down the D&R Canal to Prallsville Mills.
Registrants will need to bring their own packed lunch for the day.

Saturday, June 16. Hike 5.3 miles from Fireman’s Eddy to Prallsville
Mill (the meeting place) or choose the 2.6-mile walk to the Holcombe-
Jimison Farm. The tour will include the historic remnants of the feeder
canal outlet lock to the river, other historic canal structures and

Saturday, June 16 -- Journaling and Exploring Nature
Nature Exploration and Journaling at Point Breeze -- Famous for its
picturesque landscape, wonderful gardens, extensive art collection,
and large library, Point Breeze was central to American intellectual and
cultural life in the Delaware Valley. Join the D&R Canal Naturalist,
Stephanie Fox for a nature walk at the Divine Word, whose missionary
now sits on the Point Breeze property. We will cover the terrain that
once Charles Lucien Bonaparte observed, studied and sketched
wildlife and the landscapes. Participants will provided with a nature
journal and given hints and techniques on how connect closer to
nature by sketching and the written word. This is a family friendly
event and designed for beginner journal keepers to explore their
creative side.

(English/Spanish) Nature Walk. Enjoy a casual 3-mile walk on the D&R
Canal towpath between Lock 11 in South Bound Brook and  
Zarephath.  Please meet at Canal Park in South Bound Brook, across
from the post office on Canal Road at Madison Street. We will enjoy
conversation in English and Spanish as we identify various wildlife and

Saturday, October 27. Hike 6.2 miles from Washington Crossing to
Ellarslie, the Trenton City Museum in Cadwalader Park (the meeting
place) or choose the 2.4-mile walk to Scudder’s Falls. The tour will
pass by Wilburtha and Upper Ferry Road and will include historic canal
structures: several stop gates, a spillway, an aqueduct, and other

Friday, November 9 - 7:00-11:00 p.m. Star-gazing along the canal.
Griggstown Star Gazing. Join us at the Griggstown Grassland
Preserve for an evening of stargazing. The planet Mars will be visible
in the south. The Andromeda Galaxy, the farthest object that can be
seen with the unaided eye, will be high in the sky. We will be looking at
star clusters, open clusters and planetary nebulae in the Milky Way.
The Grassland Preserve is located at 1091 Canal Road in Griggstown.

Ellarslie, the Trenton City Museum in Cadwalader Park (the meeting
